Marcus Eliot Williams (born November 18, 1986 in Seattle, Washington) is an American professional basketball player who plays small forward, shooting guard and point guard.

College career

Williams attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle. As a freshman, he played for the University of Arizona during the 2005–2006 basketball season. He played in all 33 of Arizona's games and started 25 games. Williams was the second leading scorer, averaging 13.0 points per game while leading the team in three point field goal percentage. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. His performance was good enough to earn him a spot on the Pac-10 all-freshman team.[1] After his very strong freshman year, Williams considered entering himself into the 2006 NBA Draft.[2]

NBA career

Williams was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs with the 33rd overall pick. Williams was waived by the Spurs on 27 October 2007.[3] After spending considerable playing time with the Austin Toros from the NBDL and performing very well, He was re-signed by the Spurs on 26 December 2007.[4] On December 29, Williams was waived by the Spurs in favour of DerMarr Johnson.[5]

On 28 March 2008, he was signed by the Los Angeles Clippers for the remainder 2007–08 NBA season.[6]

On 27 September 2008 Williams signed with the Charlotte Bobcats.

On 8 April 2009, following the extended injury of Manu Ginobili, Williams signed with the San Antonio Spurs. Malik Hairston was waived to make room for Williams. After registering two games for the Spurs (scoring four points in three minutes), Williams was assigned to the Austin Toros.

NBA Development League career

After being waived by the San Antonio Spurs, Marcus Williams spent time in the NBDL playing for San Antonio's affiliate, the Austin Toros. In the 2007–2008 season he averaged 19.2 points per game in 36 games. On 4 April 2009, Williams recorded his first career triple double against the Iowa Energy, registering 29 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists.[7]

On 2/14/2008, Williams replaced teammate Malik Hairston to play in the D-League All-Star Game for the Blue Team.[8] In 19:51 of game time he registered 11 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal.[9]

The 2008–2009 basketball season marked a stellar season for Williams; twice the recipient of being named player of the month and All-NBA D-League First Team honors.[10]

After beginning 2010 playing in China, Williams returned to play with the Austin Toros late in the season. His presence was felt immediately. On 03/24/2010 in a game against Springfield, Williams was perfect from the field in attaining his 29 points; Williams shot 8 of 8 from the field, 4 of 4 from behind the arc, and 9 of 9 from the free throw line.

China

Williams later joined the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China. He then moved to Shanxi Zhongyu.[11]
